Mayor-Elect Richard Thomas premised transparency when he was elected as Mayor. In fact, Thomas has shown anything but transparency. Richard's top advisor, Joseph Spiezio, a shady businessman with a trail of lawsuits in Federal and State court, has alleged ties to the Lucchese Crime Family.
Residents and business owners in the vicinity of 5 N. Columbus Avenue, complaining about declining neighborhood quality of life and blighted conditions that are starting to exist, contacted Mount Vernon Exposed. The residents and the business owners also complained about increased vermin the area.
Richard Thomas' top advisor, Joseph Spiezio is solely responsible for these conditions. Spiezio has been "illegally" storing dumpsters for his company R & S Waste Services and Can-Man Sanitation in a lot that was used for parking for the local businesses. Now, because of Spiezio illegal storing of dumpsters, potential customers to the neighboring business now risk a $100+ ticket for double parking. The storage of dumpsters is only permitted in I-Zone of Industrial Zoning. 5 N. Columbus Avenue is not zoned industrial.

A complaint was filed with the Mount Vernon Department of Buildings to the storing of the illegal dumpsters. Building Commissioner Mark Warren has instructed staff within the Buildings Department to look the other way even though the dumpsters are being illegally stored. Mark Warren, who was Building Commissioner for most of former Mayor Clinton Young's term and all of Mayor Ernie Davis' term, is seeking to stay on during Mayor-Elect Richard Thomas' term. Commissioner Warren has a habit of looking the other way and not enforcing zoning ordinances where there is a financial benefit to him.
Mayor-Elect Thomas has aligned himself with "outsiders" who do not care about the City of Mount Vernon, but feel the need to say they know what is best for Mount Vernon. After business is concluded in Mount Vernon, Spiezio goes home to his multi-million house located at 22 Beachfront Lane in New Rochelle. Mount Vernon residents are stuck with the storage of illegal dumpsters and blighted conditions created by Spiezio. Is Spiezio purposely creating blighted conditions in the neighborhood so he can buy the very same properties he is driving down the values?
Residents are urged to come out to the City Council meeting on Wednesday December 9, 2015 at 7 P.M. to demand that Richard Thomas tell his top advisor Joseph Spiezio to remove his illegal dumpsters from 5 N. Columbus Avenue. Please call (914) 665-2348 before 3 P.M. if you wish to speak directly to Richard Thomas and the Mount Vernon City Council.
