MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – Heat troubles at a local school
have parents and community leaders demanding answers.

Parts of A.B. Davis Middle School
in Mount Vernon have been without heat for days, CBS 2 reported.

Students
have been shuffled around the building and told to keep their coats on to stay warm, CBS 2 reported.

“We had to move our classrooms
, some classes left and went into the cafeteria, so at least we would be a little bit warmer,” seventh grader Justin Ramos said.

Parents are outraged.
“These are kids. They’re not going to complain because it’s cold or tell their parents because they think it’s normal, but it’s not normal. This is ridiculous,” mother Natalie Gomez said.
The superintendent said the school has never been entirely without heat.
In an effort to upgrade the system, the boiler was replaced and repairs are under way in the 100-year-old building.
